Marsec bids farewell to popular teacher, Roychand Ragoobar

Marburg Secondary School bids farewell to a seasoned, highly experienced and long-serving English home language teacher, Roychand Ragoobar.

Mr Ragoobar, who is a master of the ‘Queen’s English, commenced teaching at Marburg Secondary in 1990. In his  27 years at the school, the popular Mr Ragoobar taught all grades from 8 to 12. He also has over 35 years of teaching experience at various schools in KZN. His skills were best suited to the senior classes where he specialised in English literature.

“He has been an inspiration to many of us at school with his sheer tenacity to ensure that educational goals were met without compromise,” said Saleem Valee, principal of Marburg Secondary.

“As a highly respected educator, Mr Ragoobar also dedicated his time and effort to the various speech contests and debates hosted by the English department and was a producer of several entertaining plays presented by the school. As a lover of table tennis he co-ordinated the sport at school level and often managed the school’s table tennis team at local interschool competitions.”

During Mr Ragoobar’s teaching career, over 10 000 pupils passed through his English classes and would have been educated and entertained by his incredible knowledge of the subject.

His passion for the English language was matched only by his compassion and empathy shown to pupils during lessons.

The void that has been left behind by Mr Ragoobar is already felt by pupils and staff alike. The school wishes him all the best in the next phase of his life.
