Ugu South Coast Tourism as well as Margate Business Association members are also invited to attend the public meeting.

ALL Margate business owners especially those who trade in the Central Business District are urged to attend a special meeting next week.

The organisers of this year’s South Coast Bike Fest, have changed the format for the festival. It is proposed that bikers and VIP visitors will get free entrance to all the festival events, but daily visitors will have to pay to get full access to the festival’s main stage, adventure zone and the entertainment area.

Ugu South Coast Tourism as well as Margate Business Association members are also invited to attend the public meeting.

The meeting takes place at Senzi’s in Margate, on Wednesday, January 31 at 5.30pm.

Brain power

After a long break, it is time to put on those thinking caps and get to the Ramsgate Lions’ Club’s monthly Braai and Quiz Night.

The January social takes place at the Ramsgate Community Centre in Glenmarkie Road, this Friday (26th) from 6pm.

Take along something to braai – fires will be provided and salads are on sale at R30 per person. Take note the club offers full bar facilities.

After everyone has eaten it’s time to get quizzical. Teams of four players test their general knowledge at a cost of R10 per person. If you cannot make up your own team you can be paired with other players.

Artistic licence

The Artists’ Gallery in Marine Drive, Ramsgate will host its first workshop of the year this Saturday (27th).

Acclaimed South African artist Willie Jacobs will demonstrate at the gallery from 10am.

Willie left his engineering career to pursue his passion for painting and has been a full time artist since 2001.

He is an accomplished portrait artist known internationally for his work. He also teaches portraiture, landscape, seascape and still life painting.

This week’s welcome mat is rolled out for regular Ramsgate visitors – Frans and Elvira Boom who are on a three-month break from Utrecht in Holland, Wendy and Roy Nolan too are back in town and in Roy’s case Margate Country Club’s fairways.

And professional tennis player Christopher Haggard who is based in Austin, Texas, USA is visiting family and playing as much golf as the weather permits before jetting back this weekend. They are all wished a wonderful stay.

Special thoughts

Special thoughts are with Rose and Aubrey du Plooy of Ramsgate whose son-in-law, Mark van Heerden, suffered a serious head injury early in December. Mark, who has been in ICU for almost two months and undergone major surgical procedures is slowly making a recovery and has been moved from intensive care. May he soon be on the road to recovery.
