Your green ID book is NOT expiring in March

The misinformation is causing havoc as people flock to the offices to apply for their ID cards.

The Department of Home Affairs has debunked rumors doing the rounds which claim the old green barcoded ID books will be invalid from the end of March this year, says a report on our sister Caxton website, South Coast Sun

The message which has been circulating reads as follows:

The department states that the green ID books will be valid for the foreseeable future.

The false information is causing havoc at the Home Affairs office in Port Shepstone, with queues last week snaking down the stairs and onto the pavement as people flocked to the office, desperate to apply for their ID cards.
