WARNING: South Coast Herald is NOT selling jewellery for Cansa

Please don't be conned by this woman.

Criminals are using a new method to scam local businesses by asking them to buy a charm bracelet depicting the Biblical ‘Whole Armour of God’.

Local business owner, Almare van der Merwe, who was a victim of the scam, has issued  a warning to the public.

“A woman came to my business yesterday (November 14) asking me to donate money by buying a charm bracelet. A necklace came with it. She said that proceeds would go to the Cancer Association and that, if we purchased two or more costing R150 each, our business card would go into a ‘special edition’ that the South Coast Herald was doing on cancer, thanking us for the donation.

“The woman said she would email me a copy of the guarantee that the silver would not come off and, if the charms fell off, they would replace them. She said that her father was living with cancer and that is how she got involved with the cancer association. I then checked my emails and, to date, I have not yet received anything from her.

“I then called the Herald to confirm whether this was true and, apparently, I had been scammed. I just want to warn other businesses not to fall for this.”
