Margate makes good progress ahead of festive season

A visit to the old amusement park revealed not much progress at the site which remains a dangerous place, home to vagrants and drug dealers.

A bit of good news for a change – renovations to the Margate Olympic pool are now complete.

Simon April, spokesman for Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, said the current filling of the pool is to check for any leaks, and if there are none, the pool will be handed over to the municipality.

Mr April said the first phase of developing the park was due to start on December 16 and that it should be noted that the appointed developer had indicated that they were currently busy with construction and obtaining the necessary licences.

The Herald also asked Mr April if there was any chance the tatty roof of the lifeguard tower and the broken light fittings outside the public toilets would be fixed before season.

Mr April said the process of getting a service provider or a contractor to fix these was under way, and that the work was expected to start soon.
