A driver who was allegedly drunk is behind bars after seemingly causing not one but two accidents in Rethmen Drive, Umtentweni yesterday (Wednesday).
After apparently colliding with a taxi, the driver fled. Shortly thereafter, the same vehicle struck two teenage boys.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said at about 3.30pm Warrant Officer Reelan Govender from Port Shepstone SAPS responded to the call.
“He found Captain Andre Lourens from the Port Shepstone cluster office trying to assist the boys,” she said.
Warrant Officer Govender called for an ambulance before driving down the road to look for the driver and vehicle responsible for the accidents.
While searching for the vehicle he noticed marks on the tarmac which indicated that the driver had veered off the road and into the bush.
