Tweni Talk: Become creative with Julie

Fabric painting, mosaic, canvas art and much more.

JULIE Solomon holds an art morning every Thursday from 9am to 12pm at number 9c Chakas Road, Umtentweni. She has great ideas for Christmas presents, so this is a perfect opportunity to become creative.

Fabric painting, mosaic, canvas art and much more – contact Julie at 081 4342756 for more information. So, depending on what you want to do, put your brushes under your arm, grab your easel and get there.

From the chitchat on the ‘Tweni Cares’ group, pothole repairs in Umtentweni should commence on Monday (28th). There is not one road in the area without a single pothole and the recent rain will no doubt produce even more.

If you are not sure whether your road is on the list, please contact ward 12 councillor Leon Garbade at 071 6826433 or ward 16 councillor Tap Kruger at 082 2550091.

What is it about boys? Ryan Ringo broke a knuckle on his right hand and will be out of action for eight weeks – get better soon. Recently, young Kyle Allen snapped a tendon on his left hand while playing rugby and had to have surgery to reattach it.

Elsie Nel with the huge tree root system that was deposited on Tweni beach recently.

The wound zig-zagged back and forth across his finger. The stitches are out but when your scribe said “Brave young man, I hope that’s the end of rugby.” Kyle’s mom Cindy replied “Mmmm … till next year, then we will see.” The many people currently going through some very tough times with extremely sick relatives are wished strength – the feeling of helplessness that comes with having to stand by and watch is agonisingly frustrating.

Community matters

Excited couple Leon and Margaret Venter left last week for a family get-together in Ireland. They are wished a wonderful trip. Welcome home to Marcel and Glenda Schutgens who arrive back today. I think they will need time to get back into the very different lifestyle compared to Ascension Island. South Africans have the luxury of being able to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables on almost every street corner.

Herbs and veggies

Talking about fresh vegetables, residents in Tweni will now have the opportunity to buy organic vegetables and herbs directly from Desai’s Farm, situated at 5 Umthombe Place (near the Tweni tennis court) and directional signage will be erected from Tweni Spar to the farm.

The first open day was a huge success, so contact Mohammed Desai at 076 8983408 for more information.

Timber!

Barbara Knowles had part of a tree fall down late last Thursday, damaging a vehicle parked on the premises. Johnny Guy did a temporary cut to clear the driveway, but as more rain fell, the other half of the tree crashed onto the neighbour’s roof.

Driftwood deposit

Heavy seas recently deposited a lot of interesting ‘bounty’ on the beach, including a beautiful tree root system which was admired by Dr Anton Nel’s mom Elsie, who is 78 years young.

Monthly meeting

Stay in the loop to find out what is happening in the area by showing your support and attending the monthly Umtentweni Community Policing Forum (CPF) meeting at 5.15pm on Tuesday, August 29th. Again, forum members thank Zizi’s management for the generous hosting and for the delicious refreshments provided.
