Fires are lit at 6pm so take along some meat, salads are on offer at R30 per person and there is a cash bar.

A FABULOUS supper theatre offering `Christmas in July’ was a celebration of the jazziest and coolest of instruments – the saxophone.

Staged at the Azalea Hall at Margate Retirement Village, the sassy show featured two talented musicians and singers, Calli Thomson (keyboard) and Vicky de Villiers (saxophone and drums) collectively known as `Saxadelic’.

Their performances were lively and easy on the ear.

Beauty queen visits

Former Hibiscus Queen, Daleen (Pretorius) de Klerk recently visited the South Coast. Eighteen-year-old Daleen, who hailed from Margate, was the first local entrant to win the prestigious pageant after it had been revived in the 1980s.

She was the 1989 winner and her runners-up were Diana Tilden-Davis who won the Miss South Africa crown the following year and Corinne Durheim who was also a Miss SA first princess.

Daleen won her first beauty contest, Miss Suid-Natal when she was in grade 10 after her model agency boss Cherie Loomes encouraged her to enter. In that same year she was the national runner-up in Huisegenoot magazine’s Miss Teen contest.

But her big year was 1989 when she won two motor cars along with a string of titles including Miss San Lameer, Miss Umhlanga Rocks and she was also crowned Surf Queen.

The gorgeous green-eyed beauty was snapped up by both national and international modelling agencies and she featured on the front pages of many magazines.

She relocated to Cape Town and married her doctor husband Conrad in 1999. The couple, who are avid long-distance runners, have two teenage children.

On her recent return to her old home town she enjoyed a special catch-up class reunion dinner, popped in to visit friends (including Herald staffers) and took a nostalgic drive around the South Coast.Although it is almost 30 years ago she looks as beautiful as she did when she stepped out on stage at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre in a red-sequined mini dress to win the hearts of the people and nod from the judges.
