Margate Moves: Beachfront revamp plans welcomed

This must be welcome news for the town's tourism industry and business community.

IT is encouraging that the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality has plans to revamp the Margate beachfront.

The municipal manager Max Mbili recently told the business community at an `action meeting’ that the Olympic pool repair would begin this month and the eyesore – the old amusement park site – would be cleared. Ray Basson of the Master Builders’ Association told the meeting that the promenade, which had been badly damaged and vandalised, would also be repaired.

But the traffic and police officers need to enforce the by-laws, especially littering and the smashing of glass bottles. Perhaps the action committee can campaign for more rubbish bins along the beachfront to stop the dumping.
