South Coast dogs show how it’s done

HIBISCUS Kennel Club held a very successful open show recently. It was good to see a number of handlers and dogs from Durban and further attending and not only locals. There were also a number of new competitors and hopefully they will continue with the sport.

Michelle Howard and Chinese crested Bobbit had an excellent day, placing first in contact, gr 1 small, non-contact gr 2 small and dog jumping gr 4. Michelle also came first in non-contact gr 1 with Faithee.

Kristen Livingstone and blue and white border collie Kai took first in contact agility gr 1 large, second in dog jumping gr 5 and first with Belgian shepherd Phoenix in dog jumping gr 2.

Bernice Smit and tri-coloured Shetland sheepdog Ty scooped a second place in both contact agility gr 1 medium and dog jumping gr 6. Bernice and Chloe placed third in contact agility gr 3 medium.

Handler Sheldene Fourie and Ty came first in non-contact agility gr 2 medium. Sheldene also placed first in contact agility gr 3 medium and second in non-contact agility gr 3 with Mindy.

Niki Calvert, handling Linda Livesey’s border collie Dexi, came third in contact agility gr 2 large, first in non-contact agility gr 3 large and first in dog jumping gr 1. With Beryl Verwoerd’s miniature American shepherd Quest (at his first show) Niki placed third in dog jumping gr 6.

Billy Engelbrecht and Jack Russell Gunner achieved a first place in contact agility gr 3 small and a second in non-contact agility gr 3 small. Billy and her young Shetland sheepdog placed first in dog jumping gr 6.

Rosemarie Ludwig took second place in contact agility gr 2 small with small crossbreed dog Chippie and achieved another second with border collie Turbo in contact agility gr 3.

With border collie Demi, Rosemarie placed second in non-contact agility gr 1 large and took another second place with border collie Naka in non-contact agility gr 3 large. Elsie Pretorius and poodle Miko came third in both contact agility gr 3 medium and dog jumping gr 3.

Ninette Smith and border collie Sparkle scooped a first place in contact agility gr 3 large and a third place in non-contact agility gr 3 large. With border collie Glitz, Ninette came first in non-contact agility gr 2 large.

Ninette and her youngest border collie Shimmer placed third in dog jumping gr 2 and placed first in both non-contact agility gr 3 small and dog jumping gr 3 with her toy poodle Swish.

Gaby Frey and poodle Kylie placed third in non-contact agility gr 3 small and with the evergreen poodle Scooby, Gaby placed second in dog jumping gr 3.

Jenny Robertson and border collie Jodie have persevered through a lot of issues together and achieved a wonderful, well-deserved second place in dog jumping gr 1.

Heather Moorcroft and cocker spaniel Nina achieved a first place in non-contact agility gr 1 medium and a third place in dog jumping gr 4. Pat de Kort and German shepherd Ava placed first in non-contact agility gr 1 large and third in dog jumping gr 2.

The tunnelling event was in aid of raising funds for the South African Agility team going to the Agility World Champs in the Czech Republic in October and all who took part are thanked.
