Margate Moves: Still lots to do

This bazaar is famous for its fair fare and great entertainment.

 

MARGATE did not win the DStv kykNET’S `Town of the Year’ award but it did come tops in KwaZulu-Natal. Thanks to all the people who voted in the Kwela competition.

There is an `action’ meeting for all Margate business owners and interested people to discuss the way forward to restore the town to its former status as `Queen of the Coast’. The meeting takes place at RJ’s restaurant in Marine Drive on Thursday, July 6 at 8am. For more information phone George Enslin at 083 6257417.

Fine fair

For the past few months the congregation at the Margate NG Church have been baking, cooking, sewing and collecting for the annual big bazaar. It takes place at St Mike’s beach next Saturday, July 8 from 9am to 1pm. This bazaar is famous for its fair fare and great entertainment. Top attractions include the pancake hut, tombola stall, games table and the ever popular White Elephant kiosk.

Curtain comes down

The final performance by the talented Hibiscus Choir, takes place at the Ramsgate Lions’ Community Hall in Glenmarkie Road this Saturday at 6pm.

The choir, under the baton of Mari Webster and accompanied by Robin Ransome, has received good reviews for their concert `Show Stopper’ which has been staged at various venues.

Hamburgers will be on sale and there will be a cash bar. Tickets, at R30 per person will be on sale at the door.

Go classical

The Kayser Quintet will perform at the next Classics at Riverbend concert. It takes place at the Riverbend Conference Centre next Friday (30th) from 6.30pm. A free wine tasting, starting at 5.45pm, will precede the show. Tickets cost R100 and are on sale at the crocodile farm shop.

Making memories

There’s a great supper theatre show heading to Azalea Hall next weekend. `Thanks for the Memory’ produced by Mar Webster will be staged over two nights (June 30th and July 1) at 7pm. Doors open at 6pm and patrons are invited to pack a picnic hamper and don’t forget to take your own liquid refreshments too. Tickets at R65 per person are on sale at the RAC or admin offices at Margate Retirement Village. Phone 039 312 5000.

Take the plunge

The Johannesburg Skydiving Club will visit the South Coast next month. If you weigh less than 110kgs and you have always wanted to `fly’ then head up to Margate Airport between July 6 and 9 where you will experience the thrill of skydiving. No comprehensive ground school is needed for a tandem skydive.

Exotic blooms

The hall at Margate Methodist Church will literally be blooming next month. It is the venue for the Alfred County Orchid Society’s annual show.

Exquisite blooms will be on show on Friday, July 7 and Saturday July 8 from 8.30am. For details contact Barbara at 039 3171992.

Quiz time

Ramsgate Lions Club has a busy weekend ahead – on Friday June 30th it’s time for the monthly social braai and quiz night at the Community Centre in Glenmarkie Road. Fires are lit from 6pm. And the next day (1st) the Lions will hold their fun `Amazing Race’ car rally. The cost is R100 per vehicle and there are great prizes on offer for the winning team.

Mark July 1 on the calendar if you are ready for an afternoon of food, fun and whisky-tasting. The South Coast Caledonian Society holds its belated Burns Nicht function at Cafe Munro at midday.
