Talk to focus on art

THE life and work of Irma Stern, a fascinating and much-travelled South African artist, who was born in Schweitzer-Renecke in 1894 and who died in 1966, will be the subject of the talk at the June Tuesday Rostrum lunch at Mbango on Tuesday, June 13 at noon.

Guest speaker Mary van Blommestein, will present a talk entitled ‘A Sketch of Irma Stern: artist, traveller and collector’. Mary is a curator at the University of Cape Town’s Irma Stern Museum, which is situated in Irma’s former home. She is also the curator of the university’s Works of Art collection.

Her presentation will feature graphics of Irma’s work from public and private collections and she will highlight some of the more important exhibits at the museum.

You need not be a member to attend a Tuesday Rostrum lunch. Guests are welcome and all local art lovers are especially invited to lunch with the ‘friendly, thinking women’s club’ this month. To book, contact Denise Millar at 083 2719163.
