UPDATE: Armed robbers blow up safe at Umzinto wholesaler

A case of business robbery has been registered for investigation.

UPDATE:

TWO guards patrolling at Moosa’s Cash and Carry in Umzinto managed to call for assistance shortly before multiple armed men held them up at gunpoint and carried out an armed robbery.

“Men who were wearing balaclavas, jumped from a white light delivery vehicle and held them up with firearms at the side of the building,” confirmed Port Shepstone SAPS communications officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

They kept watch over the guards while the other suspects proceeded into the wholesaler and attempted to blow open the safe with plastic explosives.

Magma Security and the SAPS arrived at the scene and were fired upon by the robbers, fortunately nobody was injured in the exchange of gunfire.

The suspects managed to successfully flee the scene. A case of business robbery has been registered for investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY:

AUTOMATIC gunfire and the sound of explosions rattled Umzinto residents out of their warm beds this morning around 2am.

It is alleged that a group of 10 men blew up ATMs at Moosa’s Cash and Carry and were spotted by a patrolling security official who alerted the SAPS.

Upon arrival, the SAPS were fired upon. It is not known as yet if any police members were injured during the exchange of gunfire.
