Two arrested in Izingolweni for December rape and murder spree

The crimes took place in Erasmus Road, Margate.

TWO men have finally been arrested after evading police since December 16 last year.

The men, wanted for rape, aggravated robbery, assault and murder, were arrested by Margate’s Detective Sergeant Thandeyakhe Wellington Gumede on Tuesday last week.

Police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka, said the crime spree had begun in Erasmus Road, Margate on the night of December 16.

“A 18-year-old girl and her friends were walking along the road when two men approached them. The men grabbed the teenager, but her friends managed to flee,” said Captain Mfeka.

While one of the men held on to the teenager, the other removed her takkies. She tried to escape but the men caught her.

Then one of them raped her and stabbed her in the arm.

The men fled, taking her cellphone.

On the same night,  Margate police received a complaint of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, also in Erasmus Road.
