Man shot during argument in Shelly Centre parking lot

A man was arrested and his licensed firearm confiscated.

POLICE are investigating a case of attempted murder after a 32-year-old man was shot three times at a shopping complex in Shelly Beach yesterday (Sunday).

The man was taken to hospital.

According to police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid,  a 29-year-old man met a female friend and another woman at his vehicle in the parking lot at around 5.30pm.

“They were approached by the 32-year-old man who began arguing with one of the women and wanted to assault her.”

The woman climbed into the 29-year-old’s car for safety.

At that point the 32-year-old then apparently began kicking the vehicle, denting the sides and damaging the bumper.

“The 29-year-old asked him what he was doing. The 32-year old advanced towards 29-year-old whereupon the he (the 29-year-old) fired shots, three of which hit the 32-year-old,” Lt-Col Wiid.

The 29-year-old and the two women drove towards Port Shepstone in order to report the incident to the police. The vehicle was stopped at Oslo Beach by Maser Security, together with police officers from Port Shepstone K9 unit.

The man was arrested and his licensed firearm was confiscated. He is due to appear in Port Shepstone court tomorrow (Tuesday)on charges of attempted murder.
