Power theft leads to three more deaths by electrocution

Illegal electricity connections continue to pose a hazard to life and limb.

THREE people were electrocuted in February after coming into contact with illegally connected power cables.

On February 5, the body of a 34-year-old man was found at Hazelwood in Umzinto.

“It would appear that he died as a result of electrocution, as there were a lot of uncovered electrical cables on the ground,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

Last Tuesday morning, Port Shepstone police went to Mkholombe, near Bhobhoyi, where the body of a 21-year-old man was found on a footpath in the bushes.

Police discovered electrical cables on the ground. 

And on Monday this week the body of a 59-year-old woman was found in the Mkholombe area, as were more cables were found. It is suspected that she was electrocuted.
