Update: Hibberdene murderer sentenced

She was sentenced for the murder of Trevor Barnard at a hotel in the town in 2015.

THE punishment should fit the crime as well as the person.

So said Magistrate Garth Davis when sentencing Patricia Maria Camara to nine years’ imprisonment following her appearance in the Scottburgh Regional Court this afternoon.

Mrs Camara has been jailed for the murder of Trevor Barnard at a hotel in Hibberdene in 2015.

“Remorse has a particular meaning and there is a chasm between regret and remorse. There is no remorse, perhaps regret, but no true remorse,” said Magistrate Davis, adding that Mrs Camara had intentionally taken the firearm to the hotel where she would later shoot and kill Mr Barnard.

The visibly shaken Mrs Camara was led away while her family in court were left distraught and heartbroken.
