Policeman’s killer sentenced

Ndlovu’s two co-accused, 37-year-old Qobolwakhe Mqadi and 29-year-old Sizwe Ndlovu, had assisted him by burying the body.

THE man who fatally shot a Durban policeman as well as having his victim’s body buried in a shallow grave in Umkomaas in 2014 was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment in the Durban High Court.

Thirty-one-year-old Mthobisi Ndlovu, who was charged with the murder of Constable Dennis Ngcobo, who was stationed at the Durban Central Police Station, received a further five-year sentence for defeating the ends of justice as well as another five-year sentence for accessory after the fact.

His sentences will run concurrently.

Ndlovu’s two co-accused,  37-year-old Qobolwakhe Mqadi and 29-year-old Sizwe Ndlovu, had assisted him by burying the body.

Sizwe Ndlovu received a five-year sentence for his role in the matter and, having turned state witness, Mqadi will be recharged in the matter.

A missing persons case was registered for investigation and, following the discovery of the body of the officer, Umkomaas SAPS opened a case of murder, which was later transferred to the Hawks for investigation.

The three suspects were arrested in August  2014.
