Repairs to Margate beach facilities expected soon

Councillor Dave Watson said the Olympic pool will also be repaired, and that a tender had been awarded to an engineering firm.

THERE is some news on the horizon for Margate.

Ward 2 Councillor Dave Watson said a contractor is expected to complete the repairs to the damaged whale deck, walkway, steps and promenade on Margate beachfront by December 15.

He said the contract has been awarded by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

According to Cllr Watson, the amalgamation of the Hibiscus Coast and Izingoweni municipalities meant that Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA)  has had to redo all treasury documents before  money to pay for these repairs can be transferred.

He said this is expected to be resolved ‘very soon’ and the contractor is expected to complete these repairs by the 15th.

Cllr Watson said the Olympic pool will also be repaired, and that a tender has been awarded to an engineering firm.

A tender for the cleaning and de-silting of the tidal pools in the area, including Margate, is at final stage at procurement.
