Cop involved in robbery

One of the robbers posed as a customer.

THE ‘wrong’ arm of the law – a local police officer – appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court recently along with two alleged accomplices, in connection with an armed robbery in Roseneath.

The owners of a tikka outlet were sitting outside their shop when one of the robbers – posing as a customer – approached them.

One got up to accompany the man into the shop when two other men suddenly appeared with guns.

They forced the owners into the kitchen and then ransacked the shop, fleeing with money, four cellphones, a gold chain, a television and a DVD player, said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

The alarm was raised and while police rushed to the scene they spotted two cars speeding away.

They made a U-turn and gave chase.

“With the assistance of the Umzinto K9 Unit, they intercepted and arrested the suspects on the N2 freeway overhead bridge.”

Facing charges of business robbery are Sbonsiso Mdu Mtshali, Zithulele Japhet Mtshali and Andile Zondo.
