Recovery centre gets ‘tested’ – in a good way

Businesses are encouraged to support the centre, with food being top of the list of items needed.

DRUG testing kits worth about R5 000 were recently donated to the Port Shepstone Recovery Centre in Marburg.

The centre, which provides addiction counselling and alcohol and drug treatment, has been closed for renovations and will open its doors again on November 1.

John Naidoo, a supervisor at the centre, said they help people from all over overcome their addictions.

Raine Massey, the new owner of the South Coast company Uber Test, said the recovery centre was the first non-profit organisation to receive a donation of urine drug testing kits from her company and she encouraged other businesses to sponsor more kits for the centre.

As a business owner, I just wanted to give back to the community,  – Raine Massey

The organisation, which has been in operation since 2013, depends largely on public contributions. The centre offers various programmes, including workshops, counselling, motivational talks, and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Those responsible for opening the Port Shepstone Recovery Centre, chairman Anthony Gonzalves, Daya Moodley, Muthu Murugan and the supervisor, Nithia Nagia, have achieved significant success.

Mr Gonzalves urged the community to support and donate towards the centre, which assists people free of charge. He added that food is the centre’s most pressing need.
