Update: Bus crash victim identified

Representatives from the bus company were at the scene last night and the cause of the accident is under investigation.

POLICE are investigating a culpable homicide docket after last night’s bus accident which claimed the life of a 21-year-old Hibberdene man.

“The driver of the sedan died on impact. The driver of the bus was not injured,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

The bus driver was uninjured.

“Representatives from the bus company were at the scene last night and the cause of the accident is under investigation,” she added.

The driver of the car has been identified as Yasteel Ashirvadh Sewpersad from Joan farm, Hibberdene.

Mr Sewpersad was employed at Hibiscus Private Hospital. His funeral will be held at his residence today and cremation will take place at the Port Shepstone Crematorium.

NETCARE 911 reports that an accident on the R102 near Melville has left one person dead and 34 others injured, six of those seriously.

Initial reports indicated that the collision involved a light motor vehicle and a bus.

Details are still sketchy at this stage but updates will be posted as new information comes to hand.
