Meet Manaba’s crime busters

This week the coast is introduced to the team from Manaba who are not only combating crime but bringing the community together. Please email shonaa@dbn.caxton.co.za if you would like your organisation featured.

Hennie van der Berg – chairman and Hannes Dippenaar – Operational and Safety (OPS) Commander/deputy chairman of Manaba Community Police Forum.

Area: Manaba – From the Total Garage in Margate to Seaslopes and from Lilliecrona up to the highway.

The crime situation is very stable, but it is busy picking up at the moment. We have brought down the break-ins from around 38-per-month to around six-per-month.

Visibility, patrols, good structures and good communication with the police are methods this forum is using to combat crime. We are in the process of bringing in cameras to monitor the area.

Three ‘keep safe’ tips:

* Ensure that all doors are locked at all times and that windows are closed when you are not at home;

* Ensure that tools such as axes, spades, picks, ladders, etc. that can be used in an attack, are locked away when you do not use them;

* Report suspicious behaviour and information.

Most important is to get involved and join the CPF. Don’t miss our next general meeting, to be held at the Margate library on August 25 at 6pm.
