Robbers strike in Margate

One of the victims was a holidaymaker from Rustenburg.

MARGATE police are investigating three separate robberies in the Margate area last Friday.

* A woman was walking along Collingwood Drive in Margate Extension Three at midday when she was attacked from behind. “The robber grabbed her bag and her cell phone and fled,” said police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka.

* A 33-year-old woman on holiday from Rustenburg was robbed of her cellphone. The woman and her three children were at St Michael’s beach at around 5pm when a man grabbed her cell phone and fled.

* A 20-year-old man was attacked by four men in Uplands Road at  about 6pm and robbed of his belongings.  “The man gave chase and managed to apprehend one of the men who was then handed over to police,” said Captain Mfeka.

He urged people to walk in groups and be cautious at all times. He added that any and all crime should be reported so that police could establish patterns and see which areas were most affected by crime.
