Damaged road poses a problem

According to residents, the road had recently been redone by Hibiscus Coast Municipality.

THOSE living in Joan Street, Uvongo could not drive their vehicles to their homes for two weeks, after Ugu workers left open a hole they dug when fixing a burst pipe.

Due to heavy rain which followed, the road was badly damaged, blocking vehicle entry to the entire street.

According to residents, the road had recently been redone by Hibiscus Coast Municipality.

“My problem is that I cannot access my home. I have to leave my car parked at neighbours’ homes across our street. I have contacted Ugu. They’ve given me references and promised to fix it, but I am still waiting,” said one frustrated resident.

Ugu spokesman, France Zama, said they were fully aware of the matter. “Indeed, Ugu did dig up the road in question to repair a burst pipe. Due to the heavy rains on Monday and Tuesday last week, the road could not be reinstated as per repair procedure.”

Mr Zama said a contractor was currently on site reinstating the road. “Tar will be laid thereafter. The road will be ready for use by the end of this week.”
