CREW from Port Shepstone SAPS Search and Rescue Unit have joined the search for missing Durban woman, Brenda Lynn Scriven.

Emergency services, along with community volunteers have rallied this week ton search for the 62-year-old Sunningdale resident, who is believed to be swept away by the torrential rains in Glen Anil on Monday night.

Sergeant Rommel da Rosa and his dog, Bear, part of the Port Shepstone Search and Rescue Unit, joined the search yesterday. They were joined today by Warrant Officers Francois Pretorius, Marc Wiid, and  Gawie Nel.

Today, two SAPS search and rescue operations will run simultaneously.

The first group comprising of Search and Rescue members from Durban, Port Shepstone, Pietermaritzburg and Umhlali, together with K9 Search and Rescue will follow up on the search along the Umgeni River, and in a stream along Old North Coast Road.

The second Search and Rescue team consists of Port Shepstone, Durban and Empangeni personnel who, together with with K9 Search and Rescue, will focus on the Umlazi River and the Mondi Canal River near Cutting’s Beach. They are also searching for a man who has gone missing.

According to the Northglen News, desperate family members created a ‘Searching for Brenda’ Facebook page, appealing to members of the community to join in the search.

The website reported yesterday that Warrant Officer Dave Steyn, head of the SAPS Search and Rescue Unit, said based on the confluence of the river there was only a two per cent chance that Scriven had washed out to sea

He urged volunteers to focus on the flood plains and areas full of debris, as this would be the most likely place where she could be found.
