Storm’s aftermath leaves eight beaches closed

When conditions are stable the KZN Sharks Board will replace the nets.

THE following beaches are currently closed due to the recent stormy seas.

Scottburgh, Margate, Ramsgate, Trafalgar, Glenmore, Leisure Bay, TO Strand and Port Edward.

The remainder are open but may well be restricted by the lifeguards due to poor sea conditions.

Mike Anderson-Reid of  the KZN Sharks Board said staff are currently still busy out at sea working at some locations.

We have had a number of bunched nets and will replace gear at the aforementioned closed beaches when conditions off these beaches are stable.

Please bear in mind that the majority of launch sites are treacherous at the moment and the KZN Sharks Board is using the Sonny Evans launch at Shelly Beach for most of the south coast servicing.

He said all beaches off the KwaZulu-Natal coast were closed yesterday (Wednesday) after the storm as they could not get out to check the gear on Monday or Tuesday  due to the rough seas. “We opened as we completed servicing where we could this morning,” he added.
