Just in: Couple attacked in their Pumula home

In both cases, unlocked doors allowed intruders easy access to the homes.

AN elderly couple was assaulted by three men in their 7th Avenue, Pumula home last night.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the couple was preparing to go to bed at around 9pm when three men entered the house by kicking open a door and opening an unlocked security gate.

They assaulted the man before fleeing with jewellery, a firearm and a cell phone.

In a separate incident, an intruder gained entry through an unlocked door of a home in Hibberdene at 8.45pm last night.

The resident was confronted in the lounge by a man who demanded his wallet. The intruder had already taken  a  laptop from the table.

Lt-Col Wiid urged people to make sure their security gates and doors were kept locked at all times, and that extra security precautions be taken at night.
