Woman raped at knifepoint

She was dragged to a bushy area, where she was raped by two men.

SPHAMANDLA  Mkhize (27) and Syanda Shinga (23) were sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for rape and five years for kidnapping in the Scottburgh Regional Court last Thursday.

The sentences relate to the offences which took place near Mtwalume  in December 2012.

A woman was on her way to meet her boyfriend when she was accosted by Mkhize and Shinga, who took her at knifepoint to a nearby bush, where they raped her.

The next day, Mkhize took the woman to home, professing his love for her. She reported the rape immediately and a case was opened.

Regional Court Prosecutor, Akhile Gcume, led DNA evidence which linked Mkhize to the crime.

Both men were positively identified by the woman during an identity parade.
