A SIX-YEAR-OLD child has died after he was doused with petrol and set alight in Izingolweni last Thursday.
“The boy, a grade 1 pupil at a local school, was on his way home from school at around 1.30pm when he met up with a man who chased him,” said police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka.
“He grabbed the boy and poured petrol on him before setting him alight.”
The child was taken to the local clinic by teachers. He died on arrival.
A 28-year-old man was arrested and is due to appear in the Izingolweni Magistrate’s Court today (Monday).
According to police reports the man is mentally challenged.
