Body retrieved from river

Search and rescue dog, Bear, was instrumental in the recovery of the body.

THE body of a man (35) was retrieved from a river in the Gcebeni location, Mzimkhulu, last Friday.

The search was undertaken by the Port Shepstone K9 Search and Rescue Unit after it was reported that someone was thought to have drowned in the river.

Warrant Officers Francois Pretorius, Marc Wiid, Gabriel Nel and Rommel da Rosa from the unit responded.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said W/O Wiid and W/O Da Rosa entered the water. Search and rescue dog, Bear, indicated a spot in the water and W/O Wiid retrieved the body from the depths.

“An inquest docket has been opened,” added Lt-Col Wiid.
