R100 000 worth of dagga seized from Gogo

The elderly woman was arrested at her home.

BADUMILE Ncwane (71) from Ntshaseni Ward, Dududu, appeared in the Vulamehlo Magistrate’s Court recently on a charge of dealing in drugs.

“She was released on bail of R1 500,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer Captain Vincent Pandarum.

The SAPS Crime Intelligence had provided information on an alleged drug dealer operating in the Dududu area.

An intelligence collector teamed up with Constables Pagel Rajah and Nqoba Doncabe of the Umzinto K9 Unit as well as members of the Durban National Intervention Unit to carry out a sting operation.

“They pounced on the unsuspecting woman at her home. While searching the premises, the police team unearthed 18 bags of loose dagga weighing 53.3 kilograms,” said Captain Pandarum.

Seized as exhibits, the bags of dagga are estimated to have a street value of more than R100 000.

The case has been postponed until Friday, May 27. Detective Sergeant Cyril Saunders is the investigating officer.
