South Coast dogs prove their worth

A weekend of championship agility shows were held at Scottburgh Country Club at the end of April.

SOUTH Coast dogs performed extremely well at recent championship agility shows held at Scottburgh Country Club.

At the East Coast Hounds Champ Show, Rosemary Ludwig and small Maltese-type Chippie were awarded one first place. Gaby Frey and 12-year old Scooby, who is still going strong, came home with one second and one third place. Gaby and border collie KT also placed third in one of their classes. Karen Salhus and schipperke Kajun achieved third place and Bernice Smit and Shetland sheepdog, Mindy, must be commended for achieving a first, second and third place in three classes. Well done!

Sheldene Fourie and Shetland sheepdog Chloe achieved two second places. Ninette Smith’s little toy poodle Swish came home with three first places -one with a qualification into the top grade and the other two with QCs (qualification certificates that count towards champion status). Ninette and border collie Sparkle placed third and placed second twice and third once in three different classes with border collie Glitz. With Australian shepherd Ozz, Ninette achieved one third place.

Michelle Howard and Chinese crested Sebastian were placed first in one of their classes. Ann Shaw and speedy border collie Bondi are making very good progress and walked off with one first and one second place. Ann came third with Romulus. Maritha Delport and border collie WB (abbreviation for Winburg, where he comes from) came third and Maritha and border collie Gigi received one first place. Elsie Pretorius and miniature poodle Miko placed second in one of their classes. Gail Taylor achieved a second place with both of her border collies, Spark and Swift and placed third with Kay Sargent’s dog Spice.

At the KZNDAA Champ Show, Ninette Smith and Swish were placed first with a QC. Ninette achieved a first place with Sparkle and one third place with Glitz. Michelle Howard and Sebastian had one first and two third places. They further did very well to be placed second and then obtained a first place with their first QC. Bernice Smit and Mindy were thrilled with one first and two third places.

Gail Taylor and Fizz achieved two second places and one first place, to be awarded their first QC. With Spark, Gail achieved a third place. Billy-Ann Engelbrecht and her very fast little Jack Russell Gunner, did well to be placed first in two different classes. Gaby Frey and toy poodle Kylie came first in one and second in two of their classes, and Gaby and Scooby achieved a first and second places in two different classes. Linda Livesey and border collie Dexie excelled and were placed first in their class.

Rosemarie Ludwig and border collie Nala achieved one second place. Desiree Grutter and poodle The Baron scored one first and two second places. Kristin Livingstone and border collie Kai had a super round and placed first in one of their classes and third in the other. Elsie Pretorius and Miko came second in their class, Jean Whittaker and Zela achieved a third place and Maritha Delport and Gigi placed first in their class.

The results for the National Dog Jumping League for 2015 were also announced at the show. Elsie Pretorius and Shiro won the rosette for Top KZN Mini Dog, Ninette Smith and Sparkle were Top KZN Midi Dog, and Ninette and Ozz received the rosette for Top KZN Standard Dog.
