Sheppie stylist in national finals

Nelisiwe Khawula of Port Shepstone has a chance of winning the .2016 HairXperts Masters Challenge.

HAIR care brand, Sofn’Free, currently in the midst of its 2016 hair stylist challenge, is searching for the top hair stylist in the country – and the winner might just turn out to be Nelisiwe Khawula (32) of Port Shepstone.

Nelisiwe is one of only 14 out of 3 000 entrants who have made it to the finals and who are now in the Style Off challenges phase of the national competition. The only other KwaZulu-Natal finalist is Bheki Shabba Hlomuka (39) from Ladysmith.

The nationwide Sofn’free search is now in its third year and organisers are looking forward to naming the 2016 HairXperts Masters Challenge winner.

Designed to discover extraordinary talent in the South African black hair industry, the Sofn’free HairXperts Masters Challenge is open to stylists from all walks of life. A national panel of judges, headed by Disce Mamabolo, has combed through the finest hairstylists across the country, identifying the finalists who are now taking part in seven weeks of intense challenges in the Style-Off phase

Each stylist will be put through challenges to test their creativity and competence in creating edgy styles that involve analysing, treating and styling the full spectrum of black hair, from natural to relaxed. There will be no room for error. Based on the results of each challenge, one contestant will have to leave each week until the final 14 are whittled down to just seven.

The challenge is being televised and the first episode was aired on March 8. Catch the show on SABC1 every Tuesday from 9pm to 10pm.
