Copper cable thief arrested

The copper cables had apparently been dug up along the railway line in Southport.

A MAN was arrested in Southport on Tuesday this week after he was seen carrying a bag which turned out to contain copper cables.

While on routine patrol, Lazer 911 officer, Tian Vermeulen responded to a call in Chestnut Drive, Southport.

He saw the man carry a black bag and upon searching him, he found cables and tools in the bag. Officer Vermeulen arrested the suspect, who was then handed over to the SAPS.

The 31-year-old man was arrested and taken to the police station where he was charged with possession of stolen property.

He appeared in the Port Shepstone Court on Tuesday this week and the case was postponed for further investigation.
