Margate whale deck trashed

The Margate whale deck has been turned into a venue for booze binges.

IT seems like only yesterday that everyone was crowing about the fantastic whale viewing deck on Margate beachfront.

Sadly, it is now a total wreck, barely two months after it was refurbished.

A visit to the popular viewing spot for dolphins and whales revealed that it is now in a shocking state with empty booze bottles lying everywhere.

This project was part of the R2 million set aside by Hibiscus Coast Municipality to upgrade the promenade, including the fishing pier and the walkway.

HCM didn’t even have a chance to officially reopen the newly renovated facility.

A municipal spokesman said: “We will investigate, but the deck was obviously vandalised. Availability of resources or finances will determine what can be done. However, it is very disappointing that there are people who wilfully damage our facilities.”
