South Coast dogs impress at show

South Coast dogs and handlers fared very well and achieved a lot of placings.

THE FIRST agility and dog jumping show of 2016 took place on January 10 at Scottburgh Country Club.

South Coast dogs and handlers fared very well and achieved a lot of placings. In agility, there are three levels. Grade 1 is for beginners, grade 2 for more advanced dogs and grade 3 the most advanced. Dogs are also divided into three height classes.

Contact agility results: Gr 1 small, first – Billy-Anne Engelbrecht with Gunner; gr 1 large, first – Rosemary Ludwig with Nala, second Barbara Egan with Chaz; gr 2 large, third – Tracy Norton with Badger; gr 2 medium, first – Sheldene Smit with Chloe; gr 3 small, first – Gail Taylor with Spice, second – Elsie Pretorius with Shiro, third Jean Whittaker with Landy; gr 3 medium, first Bernice Smit with Mindy, gr 3 large, first – Gail Taylor with Fizz, second – Ann Shaw with Romulus.

Non-contact agility, grade 1 small, first – Billy-Anne Engelbrecht with Gunner, gr 1 medium, first – Marita Delport with Gigi, gr 2 large, first – Rosemary Ludwig with Nala; gr 3 small, first – Gaby Frey with Scooby; gr 3 medium, second Elsie Pretorius with Miko, third – Bernice Smit with Mindy; gr 3 large, second – Gail Taylor with Fizz.

Dog jumping is slightly different to agility. The course is shorter and the rules are slightly different. Large dogs are either gr 1 (advanced) or gr 2 (beginners); medium dogs are either gr 5 (advanced) or gr 5 (beginners). Small dogs are either gr 3 (advanced) or gr 4 (beginners).

Gr 5, third – Bernice Smit with Mindy; gr 2, first – Jenny Robertson with Jodie, second – Rosemary Ludwig with Nala, third – Tracy Norton with Badger, and gr 4, first – Renate Hausmann with Beetle.
