Hitchhiker robbed on N2

Two suspects are in custody.

TWO men threatened and robbed a woman who was hitchhiking on the N2 freeway in Hibberdene yesterday.

At about midday the 34-year-old woman was approached by two men.

“The men threatened her with a knife and fled with her cellphone and other items,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

The victim reported the matter at the Hibberdene police station and gave a description of the men.

“Sergeant Eugene Blankenberg, Constable Kavithasen Naidoo and Cst Simingaye Mavundla, all from the task team in Hibberdene, went to a house in the area where they arrested both suspects, who are in their mid twenties. Police also recovered the woman’s cellphone and other items,” said Lt-Col Wiid.

Both men will be charged with robbery and will appear in the Turton Court on Monday.

Police will also be looking into the possibility that the men could be linked to other robberies in the area.
