Stony silence after hit-and-run death, says family

The driver of the car was an off-duty policeman in a state vehicle.

A YEAR after Port Shepstone car guard Alfred James ‘Alfie’ Allen (46) of Sea Park was knocked down and killed by a police vehicle, his family is still waiting for any sort of justice.

Mr Allen was walking along the R102 to visit his sister in Sea Park in December 5 when he was knocked down.

The driver of the car was allegedly an off-duty policeman, in a police vehicle, who stopped about 100 metres from the scene.

Allen’s younger sister Desirée Harmse said that her family has been torn apart.

“I was seven months pregnant and lost my baby when I heard about Alfie’s death. His loss has left a terrible void in our lives. He was the pillar of strength in our family,” she said.

Mr Allen’s mother, Maxie Allen (66): “We will never get him back, but there has been no justice done. We have not received a call from the police or been to court regarding this accident. It is so unfair.”

Mr Allen left behind two children.
