Bogus cops jailed for murder, rape

They often tried to gain entry by pretending to be policemen.

BOGUS police officers, Sibusiso Nkalanzinzi Mbuthuma (37) and Mzwandile Miya (38), both from Harding, were sentenced to two life terms plus an additional 33-years’ imprisonment in the Durban High Court last week after being found guilty of rape and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The men, who are brothers-in-law, committed these offences in the Harding and Bhekithemba areas during 2005.

Their modus operandi was to target homes late at night when the families were sleeping.

They often tried to gain entry into the premises by pretending to be policemen. Once inside the homes, they would ransack the place, taking everything in sight. Their rape victims were minors at the time. Often the mothers of the victims were forced to watch their daughters being raped.
