Big national win for Team Mbango
Four aspiring chefs from Mbango Valley won a national cooking competition in Cape Town recently.
TEAM Mbango kept the South Coast’s culinary flag flying high when it won the Feedem Pitseng national cooking competition in Cape Town recently.
Sanjeev Sewnarayan, Elsie Booysen, Tracey-Lee Williams and Adrianna De Carvalho were thrilled to be crowned champions at national level. Recently the team won the provincial compo which paved the way to compete against the other top Feedem Pitseng teams from all over South Africa, in the national finals.
Taking part in the national cookout entailed keeping up with the theme ‘High Tea’ and creating and cooking up an imaginative range of seven different types of dishes that would please the Cape Town judges. They also had to decorate their table according to the theme.
The aspiring super-chefs prepared refreshing beverages and mouthwatering meals which impressed the judges.
Sanjeev Sewnarayan, an executive chef, said he is extremely proud after the team was placed third and second previously in the nationals. “We have finally being blessed to come home with the trophy in fine style, winning not only first place but also best table decor,” said Mr Sewnarayan.
Adrianna De Carvalho said “Being a part of such a big competition was such an amazing experience and I can safely say I learnt a lot.”
Elsie Booysen added that she had a wonderful time and gained a lot of knowledge and experience.
Tracey-Lee Williams said she’s over the moon with their achievement. “We all played special roles in making it a success,” said Ms Williams.
