Hunting for poachers’ traps

The teams managed to remove close to 10 snares.

AS many discovered last Saturday finding a poacher’s snare hidden in dense bush is not an easy task.

But nevertheless the teams did manage to remove nine wire snares from the bush inland of Umtentweni.

The Lower South Coast SPCA’s first snare hunt proved fairly successful, with paramedics from Netcare 911, staff from Enviro Watch and LSC SPCA, and members of the community uniting to detect illegal traps.

“Today the removal of these snares means that nine less animals (pets or wildlife) will get caught and die a painful death,” said Michael Muller, manager of the Lower South Coast SPCA.

Mr Muller said the SPCA plans to host a ‘snare hunt‘ once a month. The next one will be held on Saturday, September 19. Further details will follow in the Herald.
