Choose your theme for Mandela Day
With only days left and no idea what you’re doing for Mandela Day, don’t panic, help is at hand.
THEMES intended to make a decisive difference in the lives of South Africans for Mandela Day have been announced by the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The 2015 themes are: food security, education, shelter, participation and volunteerism.
Contributing to feeding a child during the holidays (food security) ensures that children who benefit from the National School Nutrition Programme at school will receive basic food items during school holidays.
Choosing to contribute to a child’s education gives South Africa’s youth a fighting chance in the critical drive for literacy and learning and the shelter initiative is aimed at building homes to break the cycle of homelessness and provide a foundation for growth and development.
By volunteering, you honour Mandela, who said, “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”
