Car hurtles off highway

One is in a critical condition, while the other two are serious but stable.

THREE women were injured when their vehicle veered off the N2, smashed through the Armco barriers, hit the ground and flew about 150 metres down an embankment before landing nose first in a clump of trees.

The women were reportedly travelling from the Umkomaas area when the accident occurred at Umgababa yesterday (Sunday) morning.

Netcare 911 paramedics found that two of the women had been ejected from the vehicle and landed in thick bush several metres from the car; the third had clambered out and was found under the trees.

The patients were stabilised before being carried up the embankment – with the help of tow truckers and locals – and taken to hospital.
