NSRI saves the day – again

In both incidents crews were brought safely ashore.

GEARBOX problems on a charter vessel prompted duty crew members of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Shelly Beach to launch its Discovery Rescue Runner last Sunday

Craig Lambinon, NSRI spokesman, said that seven crew and the skipper of the craft were brought safely ashore.

“The crew of the diving charter were already all wearing wetsuits, so it was decided to take them ashore in relays aboard the Discovery Rescue Runner,” he said.

The sea rescue craft, Spirit of Dawn was launched and helped to tow the vessel safely ashore.

On the same day, said Mr Lambinon, NSRI Port Edward launched the sea rescue craft, Wild Coast Sun Rescuer, to assist a boat after it reported a blown fuse box off the Mpenjati River mouth, 12 nautical miles from Port Edward.

Despite having only one of its motors working, Lady Atlantis was able to motor back to Port Edward. Six of the crew were transferred onto rescue craft and the skipper and one crew member remained on the boat.
