Cops recover stolen items in Shelly Beach

Two flat screen television sets were found hidden in the bushes.

QUICK-witted police work lead to the recovery of two flat television sets and the arrest and questioning of a man during the early hours of Monday morning.

He will be charged with house breaking and appear in court soon.

Warrant Officer Johan Maree from Port Shepstone police received information that three suspicious men were walking on the beach, carrying goods.

W/O Maree proceeded to the area and saw three men, who started running when they saw the policeman.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said that W/O Maree called for backup and members from Port Shepstone TRT, K9 unit, 10111 call centre and security companies in the area responded.

“Shortly afterwards two flat screen television sets, wrapped in a duvet, were found where they had been hidden in the bush at the beach,” she said.

At the same time a resident from a complex in the area, reported that his flat had been broken into the previous night. The door had been forced open. He stated that two flat screen televisions had been stolen from his flat.

When police searched the area, they recovered two screw drivers and another blanket from the surrounding bush.

Sergeant Rudi Smit and Constable Sibusiso Cele from the 10111 call centre in Port Shepstone also recovered a radio, dvd player and a knife which were also hidden in nearby bushes.

During another follow up operation, Lt-Col Wiid said two foreigners were also arrested in the Shelly beach area yesterday (Monday) and  items thought to be stolen were found in their car.

They will also be charged with the possession of stolen property and will appear in court soon.
