Robber holds up Margate garage with toy gun

The quick reaction of the community resulted in a swift arrest.

A ROBBER used a toy gun to hold up a Margate petrol station at 1.50am this morning.

However, a combined effort between the police, Ramsgate CPF and patrolling members, and security companies resulted in the arrest of a suspect a short while later in Shelly Beach.

Morne Kruger, founder of Ramsgate Crime Watch, said that Chubb Security responded to the ‘panic’ and arrived minutes later. Thabo Thebola of Chubb circulated the information on the crime watch group.

After getting a bit more information from him, Mr Kruger informed the Ramsgate CPF, Wolf Security and police who all responded and descended on the garage and surrounding ares within minutes.

Police quickly cordoned off the scene and gathered evidence.

Wolf Security recovered the silver toy pistol and arrested the man in Shelly Beach.
