Ugu jazz – with a twist

This year's jazz festival is set to be bigger and better.

JAZZ lovers will be asked to say “No to Xenophobia” at the annual festival of music in June.

Organisers of the popular annual music extravaganza are working with Nigerian musician Solomon Willy to help spread the message of peace and love through music.

At a media briefing held at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on Tuesday, jazz festival organisers introduced the event’s new name: Ugu Jazz, Arts and Culture Festival.

This year’s festival will see a month-long programme building up to the ‘big one’ on June 27 at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre.

Traffic control will be a top priority this year.

“For the main event we will carry on using the park-and-ride services which will give jazz lovers easy and safe access to the grounds from various locations on the coast,” said Siyabonga Msomi, event organiser and owner of Cyassound Holding Projects and Events Management.

A special concert called Diva’s Evening – in honour of women – will be staged indoors on June 26. This will feature well known artists like Sibongile Khumalo, Thandiswa Mazwai, Zama Jobe, Judith Sephuma and Heels over Head.

Tickets for the Diva’s Evening concert will be R200. There will be no VIP tickets.

The main event will cost R280, the golden circle R350 and R900 for VIP tickets.

Tickets are now available at Computicket outlets nationwide.
