Man (91) robbed; paraplegic daughter raped

The two men allegedly broke into the Park Rynie home of the victims last Tuesday.

PARK Rynie residents are reeling at the brutal robbery of a 91-year-old man and the rape of his paraplegic daughter (53) last week.

Sbusiso Sbu Chiliza (34), who admitted to a previous conviction of rape and robbery in 1997, appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the latest charges.

Also in the dock was Khohlasane Sphamandla Duma (29).

Both were arrogant and appeared bored as the charges were read out.

Chiliza feigned total disbelief.

“I’m not going to plead guilty because I don’t understand the charges,” he said.

He faces charges of house robbery, rape and motor vehicle theft.

The two men allegedly broke into the Park Rynie home of the victims last Tuesday.

The elderly man went to investigate and was overpowered and beaten by the intruders, who wanted money and computers.

One of the men took the pensioner to search the rooms while the other took the woman into a bedroom. She was left naked after she was raped and the two fled.

The Umzinto K9 Unit, Scottburgh Cluster detective team and Crime Intelligence joined forces to identify and pursue the suspects and arrested Chiliza at a tavern in Park Rynie.

A cellphone and other property allegedly stolen during the house robbery was recovered. He was also linked to another house robbery that took place in Park Rynie on  April 15.

Duma was arrested in Ocean Grove, Park Rynie the next day. He was in possession of a 9mm pistol and a stolen TV.

Both pleaded not guilty and will remain in custody until May 6 for formal bail application.
