Dog rescued from snare

Snares are an increasing problem for wildlife and pets.

A DACHSUND spent days caught in a snare and is lucky to be alive.

A Southport resident heard a dog’s cry for help coming from thick bush around her complex last weekend. She contacted the Lower South Coast SPCA andInspector Julia Watson, who never gives up on an animal in trouble, hacked through the bush and stinging nettles to rescue the stressed pet.

She found the dog with a wire snare wrapped tightly around its neck, already cutting into its fur. It would not have survived much longer.

The pet was returned to a very grateful owner.

Snares are becoming a serious problem, especially in a struggling local economy, said Julia.
